For some introductory information about Summer Shape Up RI, please visit here.

Summer Shape Up RI includes fruit-and-vegetable tracking. This new 8-week competition division is added to Pedometer Steps and Weight Loss. All during the 8 weeks of competition, you can record if you hit your goal of eating at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day. For help setting a personal goal use this tool from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control).

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TRACKING

logoWhen your mother spent your entire childhood telling you to eat your fruits and vegetables, it’s just another thing she was totally right about. Here’s why:

checkbox Fruits and vegetables are generally low in fat and are filling. For weight loss, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. Substituting fruits and vegetables for higher calorie foods and snacks will reduce your calorie intake.

checkbox Diets containing a hefty portion of fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and chronic diseases.

checkbox Fruits and vegetables provide essential vitamins, minerals and fiber that are important to your health.

How Summer Shape Up RI will help. During the eight weeks of Summer Shape Up RI, we encourage you to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat every day. So each day of the program that you eat 5 (five) or more servings of fruits and vegetables, mark that day in the logbook. This will help us all improve our eating habits in the long run – and it very likely could help in weight loss this summer.

We will be adding information to this site each week of the competition, so check back regularly.
