Shape Up RI is Hosting Informational Meetings on October 1st, October 10th and October 14th
These meetings are free and open to federal, state, and local public sector organizations
With the touch of a computer key, Rajiv Kumar is able to view the weekly health progress of 12,000 Rhode Islanders who are participating on 1,300 Shape Up RI teams. By zooming in and out of a unique tracking management system, a state-of-the-art software program used to collect and study exercise and health results, he can gather data on our participants who live in all thirty-nine towns and cities in Rhode Island.
Over 12,000 employees participated in this year's challenge from corporations and governmental organizations such as CVS/Caremark, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Brown University, Lifespan, and the Towns of Barrington, Charlestown and Little Compton. Shape Up RI also had a significant amount of participation from many colleges and schools across the state. We were very excited to see the interest Rhode Island schools, towns and cities took in the program last year, and have organized these meetings to encourage more to participate this year.
These meetings will explore how you can get your employees involved on teams to help reverse the alarming trend of obesity in Rhode Island. Rajiv Kumar provide extensive information on how federal, state, and local governments along with schools and libraries can register for this team based competition in 2009. Each year, millions of dollars are spent on the medical costs of overweight and obese Rhode Islanders, and the illnesses associated with this epidemic. Shape Up RI believes that fostering an environment of good health will help to overcome this growing problem, which diminishes productivity and increases absenteeism and illness. |
